Welcome to the third edition of ‘All you need to know about Hair Extensions’. In this edition, we point out the Top 3 Mistakes to Avoid when Applying Hair Extensions:
Incorrect Placement: This is one of the most common mistakes. Correct placement is essential. Make sure your hairdresser/stylist understands placements.
Exceeding the life of the install: This is a mistake that is quite easy to avoid. Each technique has a shelf life. For instance, depending on your hair type, a sew-in weft can last anywhere between 6-12 weeks. For tape, it should be no longer then 6 weeks. Timelines vary for each application type.
Ask your hairdresser/stylist about this. When an install is left in too long, the damage to your natural hair can be catastrophic. Mold can grow in between the tracks of a sew-in weft, fusion can turn to dreads and tape-in can either fall out without notice and or break your hair off directly at its root.
Blending: Several critical things can happen when blending, that make it a disaster with hair extensions.
For example, your stylist may mismatch your hair type and the extension hair texture. In that case, your hair just sits on top of the extension hair without a connection. In other cases, there may not be enough hair to camouflage the extension hair making a clear distinction of where the extensions stop and or start which can be embarrassing.
Watch out for these common mistakes and as always, please reach out if you have any questions. We are more than happy to answer those for you.
